Why flow can change
As the prostate enlarges, it can narrow the urethra and make the bladder work harder. Other urinary problems can produce similar symptoms.
What matters alongside weak flow
Difficulty starting, incomplete emptying, dribbling, urgency, frequency and nocturia give useful context. Your clinician may also ask about medicines that can worsen urinary symptoms.
Urgent inability to urinate
Complete inability to urinate is urinary retention and needs prompt medical attention.
Get medical help promptly: NIDDK says inability to urinate, blood in the urine, or painful/frequent/urgent urination with fever and chills need prompt medical attention.
